The goal of the Assamese Dialog Committee of ASSNA is to make people aware of the
technology available to write in Assamese and, also to work on projects to encourage the
next generation of Assamese Americans to learn to speak, read and write Assamese. We
hope to interact with three groups of people:
(1) Those who are well versed in spoken and written Assamese but are not familiar with
the tools available to write in Assamese on their computers and smart phones
(2) Those who are well versed in spoken Assamese but do not read or write Assamese
(3) Those who do not speak, read or write Assamese, and want to learn the language.
This electronic newsletter is meant to initiate a dialog among all the people who are
interested in any of the above topics. Anyone who can add to ideas put forth by other
contributors or provides content of their own, is encouraged to contribute to this quarterly
newsletter. The content does not have to be original. If you are aware of resources on the
internet or any other place that you feel will help with any the goals listed above, please
use this newsletter as a medium to disseminate the information to others by writing to the
editors. If anyone has any ideas on compiling content that will help people learn Assamese
that would also help tremendously. This newsletter can be the clearing house for all
information that is connected to the goals. We hope this will be a community effort where
people will come together to present their ideas.
Sincerely,
